To Stella, Two Years Old

Tragically our computer crashed and with it went all of our photographs. We are praying to the Tek Serve gods that data recovery will be successful but I can no longer tarry in putting this letter up. It has been waiting for photographic illustration for far too long. You will have to stay tuned and, if all is just in the world, I will hopefully get the pictures up soon. Pray for the speedy return of our pixels.

Dear Stella,

At last you have reached an age where I no longer have to reply to the query, "How old is she?" by answering in months. I don't really need to answer the question at all actually because you are more than happy to respond yourself, to proudly proclaim "TWO!" when people ask.

You have been so excited for your birthday for awhile now. At Daddy's birthday in the beginning of the month, you let everyone know, "My birthday coming up!" We decided that the best way to get you excited about your party was to talk about it a lot and make sure you were a part of all the planning. You told us that you wanted a clown on your birthday cake and you wanted yellow and green balloons at your party and you got both. When the day of your party finally arrived, you were so so excited. You spent the night before at Grandma Helaine and Grandpa Paul's house and they brought you home around 9:15am. You ran into the apartment and down the hall, saw all of the balloons and couldn't contain yourself except you had to sit down and take off your shoes before you came inside. It is very cute how you adhere to this policy even when the apartment is filled with green and yellow balloons. We decided to have a brunch party at home with family and a few friends.

Every time the doorbell rang with people coming over you ran to the door to see who was there. And you were just so happy and so excited the whole time. This made us really happy. We served bagels and lox, breakfast pastries, and fruit. And, of course, the big clown cake from Billy's Bakery (yum). Your favorite part of the party seemed to be when you got to stick your hands in your cake and lick the icing off your fingers. I think this was Papa Paul's idea but I'm not sure. After the party you took a long nap and when you woke up we opened some more presents and then went to meet Grandma and Grandpa and Steven and Clara at Mars 2110, a Mars themed restaurant where you were very excited to meet a martian. Later, while you were taking a bath I told you that I really loved the day because we were celebrating your birth and how happy we are to have you here. You replied, "I saw martian in the restaurant."

The next day - your real birthday - I gave Ranny the day off so that we could spend the whole day together. In the morning, we went to Victorian Gardens and rode on all the rides together. Your favorite was the big fast slide except that you had to sit on my lap. When you woke up from your nap, we played in the house until Daddy came home (early). Then we walked downtown to Citrus for dinner. You ate a lot of my salmon but you didn't like Dad's meatballs. This should make Grandma Helaine feel great because you LOVE her meatballs!

After dinner, we went across the street to Crumbs and you picked out a cupcake. Surprise! You chose the one with the candy on it. Interestingly, you never eat the cupcake -- you pick off all the candy and eat most of the frosting and then hand the cupcake off. Then we all went home and you went right to sleep. I hope you had the most beautiful dreams ever. It was such a great day. The weather was gloriously beautiful in honor of you and we had such a wonderful time. I am so happy to have you here. Thanks for being my daughter.

Happy Birthday, Sweet Stella.

Love,
Mommy
