To Vivian, 2.3

I have to admit that a too big part of me wishes you'd stop growing up so quickly. This month you proudly learned to say Ssss tell and even though "Tella" still comes out when you're talking quickly, you will correct me when I say "Tella". Our conversation goes something like this:
Me: (calling loudly) Tella
You: No, Mommy. Its' Sssss tell
Me: Oh. Stella.
You:(with emphatic pride) Good, Mommy!

Same thing with my brother. Goodbye Ickoo Demin. Hello Uncle Steven. Sob. Even though Dad and I still call him Ickoo Demin, we can't trick you!
You can also say 'necklace' and 'bracelet' perfectly. No more 'neckooah' and 'brackooah'. I know this because I have gotten many compliments from you on my necklace and various articles of clothing. "I like your necklace, Mommy!" you've told me on more than one occasion. You do love to give a compliment.

Recently I got a pedicure recently after not having one for awhile. You were delighted to see the dark red polish on my toes, "Mommy!! I love your nail polish!!!" You are very observant and love having fancy nails yourself. I got you to put your shoes and socks on the other day by putting you on my lap and pointing to your toes and asking you what color we should make each one. You answered and then said, "Can we do it right now?" as you always do when the subject of nail polish comes up. I think it all started a couple months back when Grandma Helaine and Grandpa Paul took you to the salon and, while Stella got a manicure, you got one fancy nail on each hand. You loved to show your fancy nails. You were so happy about them. And now you've had one or two times when all your nails were pink and you really loved it. Toes too. Anyway, while I miss all the ways you used to say certain words, I was happy tonight to hear you ask if you could jump on the "trampoolya"

And not too long ago, I was reading books to you before bed and Stella came in the room. I told her to go find her library book so we could read it when it was her turn for books. She quickly left the room and you turned to me and said, "I want Stella's (pause as you tried to think of the word. Insert adorable face searching through memory bank) lie-blueberrybook." It reminded me of the time a few months back when I asked Stella if she wanted a z bar for a snack and shortly thereafter you said, "I want a giraffe." Z bar evidently sounded like zebra which got mixed up in your head with that other cool zoo animal.

You also love a lot of people and things. Nearly every day, as we are talking about someone, we'll have a conversation that goes something like this:
Me: We have to go pick up Stella. She's having a playdate with Emi.
You" I love Emi!!! Her so nice.
Delete Emi, change context, insert Grandma, Grandpa, Ranny, any of Stella's friends, our next door neighbors, the tai driver, the guy in the muffin store, a dog we meet on the street. You get the picture.

Hanukkah and Christmas were super fun this year. You loved it when we lit the menorah. When the candles were lit, you would sing "Happy Birthday" and then ask if you could blow them out. Pretty much whenever you see a lit candle you say, "Happy birthday" or make some birthday reference. We made our annual trek to visit Santa Claus. Riding the escalators was super fun and at each floor you would ask, "Is him this way?" This year we didn't get our act together until about 11am (instead of my usual get there right at 9am policy) so there was a very loooong line. We were right in front of a very nice girl named Jenesis and her mother and brother. You and Stella had a lot of fun playing with them so it didn't matter that we had to wait 45 minutes. Then, of course, Santaland was fun. When an elf asked you what you were going to ask for from Santa, you didn't really have an answer. Stella told you to ask for American Girl doll clothes but I think that is more what she wanted than you. Nevertheless, you happily repeated it. You might have also said, "A present!" When it was time to go in to meet Santa you were a little apprehensive at first. I realized there was no way you were going on his lap. Instead, Stella sat next to him and then you sat on her lap. You did talk to him a little bit and you got your picture taken. When we left, you proudly exclaimed, "I didn't cry." You also noted, "Santa's got a weird beard." We then went to see the Miracle on 34th Street puppet show. You sat through almost the whole thing up near the front with Stella but, when there was about five minutes left to go, you came and found me and said you wanted to go. I was able to distract you with (of course) games and pictures on my phone and we made it until the end. When we left Macy's, you were very excited to see Elmo on the street.
On actual Christmas morning, when we heard you in your crib, we all went to get you. Stella carried you into the living room and when you saw all the presents you asked, "Did him come?" You were most excited about the first present you opened -- a soft, little purple dog that came in a little pocketbook. You really didn't have much interest in opening anything else after that. You got a baby, some musical instruments, a puzzle, some books. There was a lot to open but Stella ended up opening a lot of your presents. Anyway, I think you really enjoyed the holidays. We had a few parties at Grandma and Grandpa's and that is always super fun for you.

You have a really sweet, special relationship with Grandpa Paul. You love to help make a fire in the fireplace and recently roasted your first marshmallow which was a big hit. For a two year old with health conscious parents, you know a lot about candy. Sometimes in the middle of the day, you will look at me with hopeful eyes and ask, "Can I have a candy cane?" When I say no, you will either report to Stella, "Mommy said no" or ask "How about a tic tac?" Then "Actually, I don't want a tic tac. How about an M&M?" "How about a chock-oo-ah kiss?" I don't even know how you know about all these candies. Actually, yes I do. (Hi, Grandma Helaine). You do get very excited about treats.

You have become obsessed with the book "Pinkalicious" and we read it pretty much every night before you go to bed. Along with a rotating selection often including "Ten Little Rubber Ducks", "Madeline", "Caps for Sale", and "Leonardo the Terrible Monster." I especially love the way you say "Lee-na-nardo".

You continue to be the very most fun two year old in the history of the world.
Except that I have to constantly mourn the loss of one cute thing after another as you grow up, I am loving every single thing about being your mom.
I love you.
Love,
Mama
